Visual Arts Idea Grants – 2009-2010

2009-2010 EAF Foundation Visual Arts Idea Grant Awards

Student art projects in our local schools often begin with the financial support of a Visual Arts Idea Grant from Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation. Each fall, teachers are invited to apply for financial assistance for visual arts related projects, field trips and curriculum based programming.

Congratulations to the following recipients who have received a 2009-2010 Visual Arts Idea Grant from the EAF Foundation.

Elementary School Projects included:

The Art Docent Program at Westgate Elementary; pottery projects with artist Julie Perrine at Edmonds Elementary and Maplewood K-8; Northwest Native Designs in Clay at Martha Lake Elementary; creative book-making at Brighton School; creation of a cement bench with mosaic glass art at Meadowdale Elementary; scientific drawing instruction with WSAC artist Kim Newell at Seaview Elementary; focus on the work and life of Romare Bearden and other artists as a part of an African Studies Program at Martha Lake Elementary; experience in clay, plaster, copper wire and other media with local artist CC Leonard at Beverly Elementary; a study of musicians in wire sculpture at Sherwood Elementary; an Outdoor School Tile Mural at Lynnwood Elementary; and concentration on recycled materials for a school-wide ARTS Program at Brier Elementary.

A major mission of the EAF Foundation continues to be visual arts education in our community. The Visual Arts Idea Grant program has been providing support for visual arts curriculum in K-12 schools since 1994. For this school year $14,810 funded twenty-five projects. In addition, $1,000 was provided to the Edmonds School District Artist in Residency Program. The Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation is delighted with the exciting visual arts opportunities these projects represent for students in our local schools.
